Portuguese Football Federation president Fernando Gomes has hailed Pepe as a role model professional. After the 41-year-old defender officially announced his retirement from football on Thursday, according to O Jogo UFABET
‘At the end of his playing career, Pepe leaves behind a model of professionalism, dedication and, above all, a fierce passion for football and the national team.’ Gomes said in a statement.
‘Pepe is an extraordinary professional. I remember him playing in the final of Euro 2016. Or how he played with a broken arm against Morocco in Qatar. And how he performs at the age of 41 with the same passion, dedication and pride as Euro 2024.’
‘He has now decided to end his playing career. As president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I cannot fail to thank him for 17 years of service to the country.’
